What is Bluetooth?

The vast majority have heard of Bluetooth and have some understanding of the technology. But how does it work and what are the differences?

Bluetooth is a wireless communication standard that enables electronic equipment to connect and interact with each other wirelessly. The Bluetooth technology is today available in a variety of products, ranging from headphones, speakers, mobile phones, computers and watches. The strength of Bluetooth is that you are not dependent on Wi-Fi, mobile data or any network to be able to communicate with each other. As long as both devices support Bluetooth and are close enough to each other, the devices can interact with each other.

Different versions of Bluetooth

The technology goes like in most other areas forward and new Bluetooth versions come from time to time. The big difference between the different versions is the stability and the speed at which data can flow between the different units. This means that devices with newer Bluetooth technology have a more stable and better signal. In addition, communication between two devices with newer Bluetooth version is less energy-intensive, which means that battery life is increasing and that, for example, the phone's battery is not consumed equally quickly when listening to music with wireless headphones implemented with headphones with an old Bluetooth technology.

Bluetooth Classic och Bluetooth Low Energy

There are two different standards of Bluetooth. One called Classic and one called Low Energy or BLE. They are intended for different types of communication and have slightly different properties. Bluetooth Classic is ideal for connecting a headphone to your phone for example to listen to Spotify. Bluetooth Low Energy is a version that has an ultra-low energy consumption and is used for applications that do not require constant connection. For this reason, BLE is not optimal for music transmission, however, it is perfect for, for example, a remote control that should transmit data between two units at irregular intervals.

How to use Guardio Bluetooth?

In our hearing protectors, we use Bluetooth technology from a world-leading supplier whose technology is used in some of the most advanced and popular headphones available on the market today. What we do is to use so-called dual-mode technology, which means that we combine the advantages of Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy. As a result, as a user of our hearing protectors, you can listen to music while setting the headphone settings via our own App that uses Bluetooth Low Energy to transfer data between the devices.

Wired audio quality - wireless!

Guardio's hearing protection supports the patented Bluetooth technology called aptx. Aptx improves the wireless sound quality of many of the world's finest smartphones, speakers, soundbars, headphones and tablets. With aptX, music lovers can enjoy wired quality audio - wirelessly. AptX is a compression algorithm for sound developed by to be able to deliver high quality audio even through

limited data rates are needed if you want really good wireless audio because the limited speed is often a ceiling for the sound quality of the Bluetooth headphones.

In addition, the AptX codec consumes less battery than other similar products on the market. AptX also introduces less delay or latency than other codecs, which is useful if you wear wireless headphones while watching videos or playing games on your mobile device. With other codecs, the Bluetooth audio can be synchronized with your video at 800 ms (8/10 seconds) or more. AptX reduces this delay to as little as 60ms (or 30ms in its Low Latency version).
